Blog: Fundraising Heroes - August

It’s been another busy month at Mary’s Meals, working to provide life-changing school meals and a route out of poverty for children in some of the world’s poorest countries. Now it’s time to take a look back at some of the fantastic efforts made by our fundraising stars who make a real difference to the lives of children receiving Mary’s Meals.

It’s always overwhelming to hear about the kind-hearted people spreading their enthusiasm for Mary’s Meals far and wide. Here are a few shining examples from across the globe!

Fundraising footsteps

Young people are at the centre of everything we do and they also make up a huge part of the Mary’s Meals family. Just a few weeks ago, two inspirational girls, Franee and Angela, from our supporter group Teens for Mary's Meals, completed the Camino de Santiago - a pilgrimage in Spain - in honour of Mary's Meals.

The group sponsor not one, not two, but THREE schools in Malawi, helping to bring smiles to the faces of chronically hungry children through a daily meal in their place of education.

Brilliant work girls – you should be VERY proud indeed!

Step by step to feed the next child

The amazing Mary’s Meals Letterkenny Supporter Group and friends recently completed a walk across Ireland, starting in Malin and finishing in Knock after a 150 mile journey lasting nine days.

This is the third year of the Step by Step to Feed the Next Child walk, which sees scores of people come together with a common goal of spreading the word about our work and helping to reach the next child in need of Mary’s Meals. This year, the annual walk has grown in size, with a second group joining the journey after setting off from Dublin.

A massive Mary’s Meals THANK YOU to each and every one of you!

Go Gaby!

Eight-year-old Gaby from Spain recently watched our beautiful film Child 31 with her elder brother, and learned about all of the children benefitting from Mary’s Meals across the world.

Spurred on to help, Gaby collected some of her toys and books and started a sale from her garden. In just a few hours, young Gaby managed to raise almost 100€ - enough to feed six children for a whole school year!

A wheely big thanks to Matilda

Another eight-year-old doing tremendous things for Mary’s Meals is Matilda from the UK.

The dedicated youngster took on a 32 mile cycle from Windsor to Putney to raise money so impoverished children could receive a life-changing meal at school.

So far, Matilda has raised more than £1,600! Fantastic effort Matilda – thank you so much!

Baking up a storm

A group of young supporters in Perth, Australia set up a cake stall and sold tasty treats to raise money for Mary’s Meals. The cupcakes look absolutely delicious – well done and thank you!

We LOVE being able to share stories from our wonderful supporters! Let’s keep going – YOU can get involved too and help us on the road to reaching the next million children in need of Mary’s Meals!
