Oliver’s dreams
Oliver knows there is no other way he can overcome the obstacles in his life and achieve his dreams.
Oliver is the eldest of three children in his family. He lives with his parents, who both work to support the family. Despite this, the family often struggle to make ends meet and as a result, Oliver had to delay starting school.
As if that were not enough, Oliver must walk 10 km to school every day. He leaves home at 5:00 a.m. and arrives at school at 7:00 a.m., just in time for lessons to begin.
Oliver's life is far from easy. Being the firstborn means that his siblings look to him to set a positive example. Regardless of his circumstances, he is encouraged to go to school every day because he is interested in education. With Mary's Meals now at Kapara Primary School in Zambia, it has contributed to his passion for learning. He is aware that there is no other way he can overcome the obstacles and succeed.
"Walking 10 km to school on an empty stomach is difficult for me. By the time I get here, I'm feeling weak. However, porridge takes away my hunger and I instantly feel better," he said. Oliver would have given up on education if Mary's Meals had not existed, which is a genuine testament. Thanks to Mary’s Meals his dream of becoming a soldier someday can materialize.
